Apple’s Tower Theater (video)

Apple put out a lavish multimedia press release Tuesday announcing the opening of their newest LA store, but a video I could share didn’t arrive until today.

My take: While I appreciate the loving care and attention to detail Apple put into this historic restoration, I think if the company really wanted to do some public good with their free cash, they would open retail outlets in American cities that don’t already have a dozen Apple Stores. Cities that could use the lift. Like mine.

They do have an Apple store in Holyoke, MA. That is not too far, is it?

    • The Apple Store in Holyoke, 32 miles away, is a mall store that serves the largest student population of any Apple Store in the U.S. (according to its staff) — not just the 20,000-students at the UMass Amherst campus, but also Amherst College, Hampshire, Smith, Mt. Holyoke and a bunch of fancy boarding schools. Even if you have an appointment at Hadley, there are lines outside and long waits inside. There are no other Apple Stores in Western Mass, none in Vermont and none in New Hampshire within easy driving distance. The next closest store, in Marlborough, Mass., is 90 minutes away.

Maybe they should partner with Starbucks! 🙂

I wonder what Apple’s criteria are for being worthy of a store? Sorta gives new meaning to Gateway Country.
P.S. I once inadvertently drove by Small Dog Electronics in Vermont. It’d be a shame if Apple opened a store in Burlington and put them down.
