From Ed Hardy’s “Crime-busting mom tracks down Christmas decoration thief with AirTags” posted Thursday on Cult of Mac:
Nyssa Galvan and her family are apparently fans of Dr. Seuss’ classic character the Grinch, because they put up an inflatable version of the green grouch, his dog Max and a Christmas tree in their yard. Then they got a visit early Tuesday morning from an actual Grinch who stole the yard ornaments.
Since the same thing happened recently to one of her neighbors, Galvan placed AirTags on her decorations. Apple created the tracking tags to help people find their lost keys or other items, but they did the job for the inflatables, too.
AirTags use the Apple Find My network. So when someone with an iPhone or other Apple device goes near one of the lost item trackers, the owner receives a notification. In this case, Galvan went to the address indicated, where she saw her stolen items sitting outside. She then called the police…
The next day she was able to announce: “Grinch is back.” She also offered some advice: “Put trackers on yalls inflatables.”
My take: Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas means a little bit more.
