SNL: Apple's Steve Jobs introduces the iPhone (video)

This sketch first aired on Jan. 13, 2007, four days after the real thing.

Steve Jobs describes his new gadget on Weekend Update. Cue the YouTube version:

My take: What Fred Armisen offered as parody turned out to be not that far off.

I don’t know what the audience was laughing at. I didn’t find it funny then, and don’t find it funny now.

Amazing how the world has changed in the last 15 years – everyone is connected, which has it’s proponents and detractors. What’s the next big thing?

I thought it was hysterical all the way back then (and am since laughing all the way to the bank) and I have even been seeing the “ad” in my head in recent days.

    Love the punchline. 😀

“Steve” played by Armisen was a running bit on SNL in this era, starting with the iPod intros. The iPod bits were a bit funnier with “Steve” eventually introducing the iPod Pequeño which was the size of a piece of dust.

It really does show how the iPhone was really the peak of Steve’s powers…

Realistically, the iPod was the beginning of the beginning. The rest is stock market history. And so many other things.
