sell before the rest of the world reads PED’s ‘rumor-blasting’ blog.
Seriously, it will be interesting what happens to aapl tomorrow as more facts come out, or if even todays rise had anything to do with satellite connectivity.

The satphone rumor is dead according to ped. And who uses a sat phone? Ten people?

I would try it once just to know I did it. How cool would that be to make a phone call with your iPhone directly up to a satellite?

Actually, it would be useful when driving from Madison, WI to Minneapolis, MN on business. There used to be long stretches there with no service.

I’m thinking huge expanses more than 10 miles away from Interstates in Minnesota, either Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Colorado, Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, Nevada, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and California.

Just about anywhere in western and northern Canada.

Isn’t that roughly what the Telecom industry and users said about the iphone introduction?

“Who would use a cell phone without physical buttons?” “Who need a camera on a cell phone?”

Isn’t it Apple’s nature to give you a product you didn’t know you needed? It doesn’t have to be something for everyone, just everything for someone.

With our Canadian telecom oligopoly, any competition is welcome. We have some of the highest monthly mobile costs In the world, and we have large parts of the country with no coverage. If the pricing is right…

Exactly. There are still US rural areas where telecoms can’t even provide decent 4G service and they don’t deem those areas profitable enough to run internet or improved cell connectivity. Anything that can provide communications connectivity (at a price) provides more choice for consumers and gives another differentiating point for Apple. If it is another terrestrial band and provider option and price/coverage competitive, it could provide an incentive for some users. Certainly if GlobalStar has unused bandwidth they want to monetize, Apple could be interested depending on coverage and usefulness.

Could Apple be bringing out its own Terrestrial cell network bands exclusive to Apple users? Could that be a prelude to an expanded Apple branded cellular and data service, not only 4G LTE but perhaps some variant of 5G useful for low latency application?

Is the Pope Catholic? Is a new iPhone coming out soon? Does Apple have a long term roadmap? Then let the rumors begin.

      We can be confident that:

      The Pope is Catholic.
      A new iPhone is coming.
      Apple has a long-term roadmap.

But we also know that Apple “doesn’t discuss it’s plans” over acquisitions. I think we can assume the same for new technologies.

Personally, I think the bump in the stock was due to Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, and several other icons from the classical music world being sold to Apple. A “Mr. Holland’s Opus” of sorts.
