Apple fun: Tracking iPhones from factory to front door

COVID keeping you from queuing up outside an Apple Store? Here's another way to feed your obsession.

From MacRumor's Arnold Kim's Twitter feed:

My take: Haven't seen so much flight tracking since the iPhone 6.

FlightAware is a great app for domestic and some international flight tracking. If you’re really obsessed, use LiveATC app to listen in to Air Traffic Control along the way and your destination airport’s Approach, Tower and Ground frequencies.

Know that your Apple iPhone is being handled by flight and transport professionals all along its journey to your doorstep or mail drop. BUT, be on the lookout for parcel thieves who know iPhone deliveries are coming. Have a secure drop off box or location, or deliver at work or pickup point. With FedEx and maybe others, you can control delivery locations and timing or hold for pickup. Good luck everyone!

For a brief period, FedEx gave you the ability on their App to follow the truck delivering your iPhone along its route. You could see in real time where the truck was on its route and be ready to meet it as it arrived at your home. Then, as suddenly as the new service app feature appeared, it disappeared. Perhaps too many people couldn’t wait for the truck to arrive and started driving to meet the truck along its route. If that happened, then it would discombobulate drivers and conceivably disrupt the integrity of the delivery process. Or, perhaps drivers were against the consumer identification process. I remember explicitly how shocked my driver was the day I told him that I had been following him along his route to meet him at the front door. He seemed surprised, as if he were not aware of the app’s feature. Anyway, that feature is gone, no matter how useful it was to the consumer.
