Oprah: ‘Cause they’re in a billion pockets, y’all’

Apple’s pitch to Hollywood.

From Todd Haselton on CNBC:

It was, plainly put, a weird event that was short on details. But Oprah Winfrey had the best take on why all of this matters when she appeared on Apple’s stage.

“The Apple platform allows me to do what I do in a whole new way,” she said, sounding a bit like everyone who had appeared before her.

But then she said this:

“They’re in a billion pockets, y’all. A billion pockets.”

My take: Yup. That’s the quote I circled too.

Emphasis on POCKETS., Not just a billion people use our product. .A billion people take our product everywhere they go, always keeping it on their person. Reaching for and looking at- dozens of times throughout the day, A product that for many is their gateway to the outside world. A product that is a place where people begin and end their day,

That position puts Apple ahead of any other company trying to sell a product/service. For example, Google is the gateway to the internet, but Apple has become the gateway to Google for Apple users. That’s the reason why Google shares its spoils with Apple. Publishers may think Apple does not deserve a cut, but who else can put their content or product in front of a billion users as well as making it easy for those users to discover, signup/purchase, and manager those services?

Oprah has a very accomplished way of slicing through the BS. She would not sign on to Apple without absolute confidence. I do not watch the Oprah show but I do pay attention to her success.
