Funny: What if Facebook were a bar (video)

A skit on the Daily Show plays Facebook’s business model for laughs.

From Facebook cashes in on conflict:

Facebook spends all this time learning your emotional hot buttons. And it exploits those hot buttons because that’s what makes you be highly engaged, makes the advertising more valuable… Making you angry, making you afraid, is really good for Facebook’s business. —Roger McNamee

Cue the video: The fun starts at the 2:18 minute mark.

My take: Tune into Peter Pachal’s post-WWDC MashTalk podcast for my take on Apple vs. Facebook. The contrast between their business models in today’s political climate couldn’t be more stark, and Apple took several opportunities during Monday’s keynote to rub it in.

The skit is great. I hope it goes viral and has a direct impact on FB’s business strategy.

And if it’s brought up in US and EU FB hearings, all the more to laugh about.

Of course, capitalizing on polarization fuelled by manufactured conflict is nothing new.

While they preach unity and peace, politics and religion depend on the “us versus them” mentality for their survival.
