Hingham Apple Store window is target for SUV (aftermath video)

From "South Shore Hospital receiving several patients after vehicle crashes into Apple store" which aired Monday on WCVB Boston:

My take: Sending healing thoughts to the injured.

UPDATE: One dead, four in critical condition according to AppleInsider.

Police have not issued a statement, though the nature of the crash suggests it was an accident rather than an attempted robbery. Apple Stores have previously been targeted by thieves trying to crash through windows.

I hope this is a case of someone driving HUA, and not a terrorist attack. Either way I wish everybody inside the Store the very best, considering.

It’s a legal term used by police. It’s means “Head up ass”.

It seems that may be the case here.

Tragic and sad. You’d have to actually turn a little, in order to hit the storefront, so unlikely to be accidental, though you can never be sure with driving.

I sent PED a link to a ground level photo taken by the Twitter poster, a gaping hole in the storefront as you can imagine through two very large panes of thick glass aside the entrance which maybe slowed the SUV down a little.

Horrendous incident and terrible injuries. Prayers for all involved.

We had an incident nearby over the weekend where early in the morning a car crossed the road and hit a group of 75 sheriff’s recruits who were running, injuring 25, 1 gravely, 4 critical with many major limb and head injuries. The lawyer for the driver claims the driver had gotten up at 5am to go to work and fell asleep at the wheel, said the accident was unintentional.

I’ve always thought Apple should have some additional protection at the street. Using street view and Google Maps, look for Apple Store Palo Alto. One can see steel posts about 8″ diameter and 30″high spaced about 8′ apart.

Note also, a normal surface street dead-ends at University Avenue directly in front of Apple’s store. Apple had to have protection at that site.

“Thumbs-up” brother Fred S. I too am surprised, if not perhaps shocked that the shopping center failed to have those tasteful looking concrete posts one often sees strategically placed to thwart “smash & grab” robberies and to preclude some tragedy as this incident. In the absence of the shopping center taking the lead doing so, Apple I would think would have done so. Shopping centers who erected these type structures simply past the cost on to the tenants in the form of common area maintenance costs at end of year. So it is no money out of the shopping center’s pockets. It is to protect all exposed establishments.

Accident? He drove AT SPEED up to the store, through the entrance and all the way to the back of the store. Unless he was having a heart attack he has a lot of ‘splaining to do. And now vehicular homicide!,
