Apple: What keeps King Lip up at night (video)

From "Apple is both defensive and offensive, says BakerAvenue Wealth Management's King Lip" posted Saturday by CNBC:

CNBC's Steve Kovach and King Lip, BakerAvenue Wealth Management chief strategist, join 'Closing Bell: Overtime' to discuss the Apple trade.

My take: If you followed the last earnings call, you probably know as much about Apple as this chief strategist.

  1. “…in regards to China, Apple is viewed as a premium product…something Chinese consumers ascribe to.” – King Lip.
There are three Apple stores in Honolulu Hawaii. Asian tourists enjoy traveling to Hawaii to shop at Tiffany’s (2), Gucci (2), Saks and many other luxury brand’s company stores. The Apple stores are right there, within a mile of each other, one actually in the Royal Hawaiian hotel. Ala Moana Mall and Kahala are the other two. Everyone walks back to the hotel with their shopping bags. There’s a significant import-duty savings over Shanghai and Tokyo, I’ve been told.
Similar luxury store arrangements are true in Paris, Berlin, London, and Tyson’s Corner, VA. This association with brands perceived as luxurious* is hard-earned and provides incredible resilience during economic downturns and pricing power. Having your product in the hands of the wealthiest, most powerful people is certain to bring familiarity if not deep satisfaction with Apple products. Very high customer satisfaction ratings are the norm.
*Of course, given the 2nd hand market many others, including beekeepers, can enjoy iPhone.

While “King Lip” was very professional and offered some interesting analysis to anyone who isn’t an Apple 3.0 subscriber, this interview would have been much more entertaining if they hosted a different “Lip.” My suggestion would have been “Tony Lip”, from the Academy Award Winning Movie: “The Green Book.”
