Foot stuck in river rocks, swimmer wearing Apple Watch saved just in time

From Zac Halls’ “Apple Watch becomes ultimate lifeguard after calling 911 for swimmer trapped in cold river” posted Wednesday on 9to5Mac:

A woman swimming in the Columbia River found herself trapped in 56-degree water when her foot got caught in rocks, according to a police report out of Dalles, Oregon. Police say that the woman was nearing exhaustion and showing signs of hypothermia when she was rescued.

“The swimmer advised that she had been caught in the river for over 30 minutes, and that she had made the emergency call from her Apple watch,” the report says.

My take: I swim in open water. I’m a bit accident prone. I can imagine how scary that was.

I’m a swimmer too, and almost drowned twice, once from really cold water. 56 degree water can kill. The watch saved her life.

Everyone of these stories (and they just keep coming) is as refreshing as the first and others that came before. I cannot sing more highly the praises of the Watch. It truly is the second home run hit by Apple subsequent to the iPhone and on par with the iPhone success and still growing in its recognition. Little doubt in my mind that the Watch in time will usurp the iPhone in recognition as Apple’s great achievement. It was Jony Ive who pushed for the Watch. I salute Jony and his team for that achievement.
