Apple TV+: The Tragedy of Macbeth (video)

From Academy Award winners Joel Coen, Denzel Washington and Frances MacDormand. Coming to theaters Dec. 25. Streaming on Apple TV+ Jan. 14.

Cue the video:

My take: As a recovering English major, I think Apple TV+ would be smart to own Shakespeare. Especially the tragedies that start with Mac.

I’m assuming the limited theatrical release prior to end of 2021 is to quality the movie for Academy Award nominations. To qualify for award nominations, a motion picture must be released in Los Angeles County sometime during the calendar year and run for at least seven consecutive days. By releasing the movie in theaters on December 25th in Los Angeles and running it in theaters through the 31st, it will qualify the movie for award nominations. Apple is likely to heavily promote the movie as an Apple TV+ exclusive following the brief and limited theatrical run.

Saw the sneak peek. My favorite all-time Shakespearean tragedy. I think it’s the shortest.

My favorite MacBeth lines include Neptune’s ocean, and (after the witches said it first) a man not of woman born.

    Saw the sneak peek. WOW.
