Rene is extremely prolific w/his helpful videos. If I’m searching for a “how-to” with an Apple product, I’ll choose his video over an Apple support link.
The question that I wanted someone to ask is: Will Apple ever get back into the router game? We may get some sense of that w/the rumored Home OS at WWDC.
Yeah, great question. Actually, there were comments from Robert about needing a new Airport Express and I think from Philip about WiFi resets around Apple WiFi gear. In the meantime, I, myself, am delayed in installing an Eero network to extend my Time Capsule and Home control network. (The problem there, though, is neither Apple, nor Eero, but a cut Ethernet wire.)
There was also a pretty enthusiastic discussion about when Apple might re-introduce a full-sized Home Pod for the improved audio experience. I don’t know if Kirk B holds the record for most Home Pods in a home, but I recall that his tally was quite impressive.
I have an Eero 6 network running in bridge mode. The Airport Extreme is still the primary router, it talks (PPPoE – not supported by Eero) to the ISP-provided DSL modem. The Extreme also handles DHCP and port mapping. Eventually I want to migrate the network-related services on the Extreme to my PFSense box (but that requires more time than I want to spend right now doing network configuration and testing…)
Fantastic discussion of all the relevant technologies. Insightful questions & answers. Rene’s impression of the importance of collaboration, inside Apple & most successful organizations, matched my experience.
Wall Street knows exactly where they’ve made money in the past, they’ll increase Apple positions around WWDC, while ordering another 500 iPads for staff…
This was a fast-paced hour of sensible insights on Apple products and the company’s approach to product development. As a group, Apple 3.0 subscribers are knowledgable about all things Apple and René thoughtfully answered each question in a very well-informed way. Thank you to Philip for arranging the event. For subscribers who did not attend yesterday’s special event, the video is definitely worth the time invested in watching it.
For anyone who follows Apple 3.0 as a non subscriber “lurker”, as I was doing before joining as a member, the opportunity to ask questions of the Analysts and other “Apple knowledgeable guests on these zoom calls is well worth the nominal cost.
Frankly, anyone who has an investment in Apple cannot afford not to become a paid subscriber. This site offers countless other snippets of interesting investing information not available elsewhere.
Philip Elmer-DeWitt has been covering Apple since 1983 — mostly for Time Magazine (28 years), later for Fortune (9 years), where he wrote a daily blog called Apple 2.0. [Read more.]
