Apple packs in one more pre-holiday event

In New York City, on Dec. 2, no new products expected.

From CNBC:

Apple just announced a press event that it will hold at 4 p.m. ET on Dec. 2 in New York City. The event will be focused on “honoring our favorite apps and games of 2019.” A tagline on the invite says “Loved by millions. Created by the best.”

Apple typically issues a press release detailing its favorite apps and games of the year annually, but this time there may be some sort of awards ceremony instead of just a release. New products are not expected at the event.

My take: I’ll watch this one from home. Still coddling my wounded knee.

Nothing here, a marketing event to drive app sales.

I would normally tend to agree but the fact that it starts right at the close of the market has me intrigued. Did anyone else catch that?

Maybe just a brief minute to announce that Mac Pros can be ordered starting that day? (e.g., for use by 2020 game developers)

No, I disagree respectfully with my peers!

This is NYC! Apple now is moving to give App Developers their due international recognition for their industry achievements. This schedule event may be the beginning of an annual Awards Recognition in the App Development World commensurate with what the Academy Awards (or Oscars) are for artistic and technical merit in the film industry; or what the Emmy Awards ceremony honoring primetime programming is in the television industry; or what the Country Music Association Awards are for music artists and broadcasters to recognize outstanding achievement in the country music industry. I could enumerate other major awards ceremonies but you see where I am coming from with my impression. This may be the beginning event for annual events to come for the annual Professional Mobile Application Developers’ Awards Ceremony.

Apple has told us repeatedly that the company has created, essentially, a humongous new industry of talent that is growing exponentially. Apple needs to nurture this industry for the benefit of Apple, for the benefit of shareholders and more important, for the benefit of end users’ experiences. Apple needs to recognize the industry’s participants, especially the outstanding achievers who deserve honorable recognition.

This industry continues to grow in size, to grow in revenues, to grow in jobs created.

The event is being held in the Big Apple!

The event is scheduled for 4:00 p.m! Who gets much going at that hour of the day? That’s the hour for starting the day’s unwinding and heading downtown to the Rum House, or to Leyenda, Minetta Tavern, the Black Tail, NoMad Bar, or to the Maison Premiere; not to go start work at an Apple’s conference starting at 4:00 pm.

No, this is the beginning of Apple, Inc.’s recognizing a burgeoning industry the company has created involving highly talented, bright, dynamic, innovative, experiential, skilled artists needing recognition for their high achievement levels in their respective categories. Maybe Tim C should invite president Donald J. Trump so that he can see the thousands of jobs Apple is creating.
