A rare peek into the black hole where some of academia’s best and brightest disappear to make a dent in the universe.
What is Apple University? And how did it persuade a distinguished intellectual like Professor Cohen (Yale, Harvard, MIT, Stanford) to join its full-time faculty and deliver lectures to Apple executives on such esoterica as the discovery of the Higgs boson and Glenn Gould’s recordings of Bach’s Goldberg Variations?
I caught up with Prof. Cohen as he was packing for Toronto where the Glenn Gould Foundation has invited him to share with the public two of his “extraordinary” Apple talks:
- Wednesday Sept. 25: Gould’s Variations & the Human Qualities that Foster Remarkable Creativity
- Thursday Sept. 26: Central Park: A Design for Democracy
Times, venues, ticket information here. Not in Toronto? Livestream the lectures here.
Podcast below and on iTunes here.
My take: Quite a guy. I can see why Apple snagged him.
Think different.
(Think deep.)
(Think wonderful.)
Better yet folks, fly to Toronto to attend the live events; for a mere $40 (CAN$ at that) you will be a part of a select group, since few local people know it … (It seems the only thing that matters to the local media right now is “blackface”, the upcoming federal election and the future of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.)
