Apple Park: Lady Gaga on the rainbow stage (best video)

Why Jony Ive sweated the details and Tim Cook spared no expense.

From Mashable:

The singer and actress performed a special private concert for Apple employees on Friday to help formally open the campus as well as pay tribute to Steve Jobs, according MacRumors. The concert took place on a Jony Ive-designed stage, decked with a rainbow arch, inside of Apple Park’s ring..

Cue the YouTube video:

My take: The cost of the rainbow stage? Millions. Keeping alive the myth of Steve Jobs? Priceless. (I suspect this is not the last we’re going to see of that retro Apple rainbow motif.)

Agree with Steven: retaining employees (and keeping them engaged, rather than just filling a seat at the office/lab/factory/etc.) is hugely important. A truly engaged worker is worth some (probably measurable and significant) amount more than their flat cost (salary, benefits, etc). They also engage and bring in colleagues if they can find them. (Sometimes its harder than others to “bring a friends to work”.)

We recently had an employee call to action at work that i actually thought was more than just slick, (Not that it wasn’t slick: it was,, which I think i kinda … slick.). I don’t see it out in public yet, but I hope I will before too long.

After digging past a few years and layers of professional cynicism, I really do like what I do. But is still helps to see management put some effort into promoting its own business internally.

As I’ve aged I realize more fully that it’s not just the big moments that stick and resonate. Sometimes it’s the small personal moments that are valued. Lady Gaga’s call for a “be kind” emoji may be one such thing. We’ll see. I do love that Jony and Apple took the time and supplied the wherewithall to foster just such a moment. Steve lives.
