Adoption rates: iOS 12 vs. Android Pie

In this case, slow and steady may not win the race.

Less than three weeks after its Sept. 17 release, according to Apple, the newest version of its mobile operating system had been installed on 50% of iOS devices.

By contrast, Android Pie is almost nowhere to be seen. Seven weeks after its Aug. 7 release, according to Android Authority, it had been installed on less than 0.1% of Android devices.

My take: One of the reasons developers favor the iPhone.

About 86.5% of all Android devices run an OS that is more than 1 year old.

35% run an OS that is 4 years old or older. Note also, about 20% of SmartPhone owners do not have data plans. It’s reasonable to say that about 1/3 of the Android devices should not be counted as SmartPhones.
