iPad taken from stroller at wedding

And other tales of Apple crime ripped from the headlines.

From AppleInsider's Stephen Silver (who provides links):

  • Charges brought against 17 in California Apple Store thefts
  • Two wanted for Long Island Apple Store theft
  • Charges dismissed against mother who took daughter's iPhone
  • Chilean family in Miami has 18 iPhones stolen
  • 55 iPhones taken in Michigan
  • iPhone stolen from government building in Michigan
  • Teenager admits to stealing iPhones from Staten Island Apple Store
  • Security guard arrested for taking iPhones
  • Find My iPhone discovers stolen iPad
  • 23 iPhones taken from AT&T store
  • iPad taken from stroller at a wedding
  • Tracking device catches woman who took iPhone

As Slick Willie Stutton put it: "I rob banks because that's where the money is." (See also: Stutton's Law of the obvious.)

My take: I love a good crime blotter. Cheers to AppleInsider for keeping it up.

In a loud statement of consumer preference, nobody seems to want to risk jail time for a Samsung Galaxy.

Yes. Or maybe that story won’t generate click revenue.

Either way, it appears Android phones just aren’t newsworthy.

I keep thinking Apple Stores, which have a vault-like appearance with all the brushed aluminum surfaces, should have bars that drop down from the ceiling in front of the entrance, when thieves do a grab-and-run job. Sort of Maxwell Smart-ish.
