Dear Apple, please don't give $1B to Eddy Cue

The VP who green-lighted "Planet of the Apps" and "Carpool Karaoke" without James Corden thinks he's going to make a "Game of Thrones."

Eddy Cue's best effort: One of a pair of 30-second "Carpool" teasers posted Tuesday.

From Wednesday's Wall Street Journal:

Apple Inc. AAPL 1.09% has set a budget of roughly $1 billion to procure and produce original content over the next year, according to people familiar with the matter—a sign of how serious the iPhone maker is about making a splash in Hollywood... The figure is about half what Time Warner Inc.’s HBO spent on content last year and on par with estimates of what Inc. spent in 2013, the year after it announced its move into original programming.

Apple could acquire and produce as many as 10 television shows, according to the people familiar with the plan, helping fulfill Apple Senior Vice President Eddy Cue’s vision of offering high-quality video—similar to shows such as HBO’s “Game of Thrones”—on the company’s streaming-music service or a new, video-focused service.

I started investing in Aapl in 2009 and quite frankly I don’t recall Eddy accomplishing much other than the flop of Apple TV offering packages to cord cutters. I recall reading various articles how his ego got in the way with the Hollywood and TV executives. The money would be more wisely used by offering Eddy a retirement package and brining in someone else with less ego and more drive to replace him.

I’d like to see 10%, or even 5% of that amount used to bootstrap Home Automation products.
