Look what Apple has picked up since 2018

Looking for the next big thing.

From "Analyzing Apple’s growth strategy: The business moves hinting at the secretive $2T+ giant’s strategic future" posted last month by CB Insights:

Although Apple is famously secretive, its acquisitions, partnerships, and investment activity provide a window into where it’s headed next. The company has acquired more than 25 companies since 2018, from edge-based AI startup Xnor.ai to VR streaming platform NextVR. Apple has also committed $430B for new investments and 20,000 new jobs in the US over 5 years — in addition to further investments in Europe and India — across silicon engineering, AI, and 5G tech.

Using CB Insights data, we uncovered 4 of Apple’s emerging strategic priorities highlighted by its recent acquisitions, investments, and partnerships. We then categorized companies by their business relationships with Apple across these priorities.

    • AR/VR
    • Digital health
    • Machine learning & AI
    • Semiconductors & advanced materials

My take: This could be the start of something interesting. I'd love to see acquisition costs, head counts and size of patent portfolios.

It also provides much color as to the way Apple not only acquires companies and forges strategic alliances, but offers guidance as to the absorption of personnel from these transactions. Ergo, it heavily refutes these false stories regarding a slow down in hiring given that Apple has already previously hired individuals as part of key mergers, etc.

None of which is ever factored into these grossly misleading and negative stories about Apple is slowing hiring. They obviously maintain a robust hiring system as part of their business model moving forward.

@Michael You are so right and so is Apple. Hasn’t anyone in the media and investment community understood Apple is about Quality over Quantity in most all of its business areas, even hiring?

Strategic hiring / acquisition of key personnel and IP is the definition of “deliberate” hiring. I’m sure there will be decisions made regarding hiring to fill attrition for the next 6-24 months as inflationary and recessionary forces work their way globally. But no doubt since other tech companies are shedding staff, there will be a nice bubble of personnel (and smaller companies) to sift through and selectively hire for the long haul.

Thanks for sharing this information with us PED. If folk have not done so, then I recommend highly that you click the link taking you to the specific article above and read it entirely. While there is nothing new there for us, the article does present all the needed information in an organized and informative fashion for reference. I plan to share this information with all our Apple retail investors who come to our periodic dinners for Apple investment news. Those folk are not as nearly update on Apple as Apple 3.0 subscribers, but this information shared with them will go a long ways in educating them about their investment in Apple.
