The iPhone is getting a USB-C port, according to Apple’s top two rumor mongers.
From Twitter:

My latest survey indicates that 2H23 new iPhone will abandon Lightning port and switch to USB-C port. USB-C could improve iPhone’s transfer and charging speed in hardware designs, but the final spec details still depend on iOS support.— 郭明錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) May 11, 2022
From Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman
Apple Inc. is testing future iPhone models that replace the current Lightning charging port with the more prevalent USB-C connector, according to people with knowledge of the situation, a move that could help the company conform with looming European regulations.
My take: That’s how the news flows. Gurman’s story ended up topping Techmeme.
MY hope is that it improves reliability. My experience says Lightning sucks! Almost impossible to charge in Belize’s humidity! And several times needing cleaning at Apple store.
A bit off the wall (most folks can walk and chew gum at the same time), but it is the height of trivial. Moreover, it indicates a kind of “conformist” mentality on the part of our good brethren across the Pond. And that can definitely be overdone.
