Apple news: Ming-Chi Kuo on Wednesday, Mark Gurman on Friday

The iPhone is getting a USB-C port, according to Apple’s top two rumor mongers.

Apple Inc. is testing future iPhone models that replace the current Lightning charging port with the more prevalent USB-C connector, according to people with knowledge of the situation, a move that could help the company conform with looming European regulations.

My take: That’s how the news flows. Gurman’s story ended up topping Techmeme.

    I don’t understand the part about it depending on iOS support. My iPad has a USB-C port so getting it to work in an iPhone shouldn’t be an issue.

    I think he was referencing whether it would improve transfer/charging speeds.
    MY hope is that it improves reliability. My experience says Lightning sucks! Almost impossible to charge in Belize’s humidity! And several times needing cleaning at Apple store.

Why would Britain ever choose to leave this amalgamation of nations that has such an incredibly rational, well organized and appropriately focused central government? Forget military conflicts, rising prices, refugee challenges, energy shortages and the importance of the NATO alliance. Forcing Apple through regulation to change its charging cable is of the highest importance, right? Apple can never be trusted to figure out what works best for its customers. Of course not. That would be such an American thing to do…
