Well If I remind well Tim is an avid cyclist. I’m surprise we don’t see more regarding cycling.

Rather than a car, I’d rather see Apple come out with an eBike. Or an iBike – I don’t really care what they decide to call it – I’d buy one in an instant! Fully integrated with Fitness+, etc…

    Back to my “incremental” rant.

When you’re ahead, each increment keeps you ahead. In Smart Watches, it’s even more true. Samsung recently abandoned Tizen for Android Wear.

Does any one remember that Samsung launched their smart watch 2 years before Apple Watch? Apple became the best selling watch then and now.

Amen. I see some criticism that Apple hasn’t come out with a jaw dropping new product/feature. Instead I see them weaving a tapestry one thread at a time with features that appeal to significant populations. No thread seems that powerful but together they are quite strong.

Apple should not be making an e bike. Apple should be making a stationary bike that is an input device for gaming.

Horace Dediu has a whole podcast dedicated to micromobility with a core construct that an apple branded electric bike integrated with an iPhone makes more sense than an Apple car. I won’t go into all the detail except to add the phrase that came to mind a couple of years ago (which Horace has also said) — “A mind for the bicycle.”

I can attest to the Fall detection feature just today. I was out cycling with my 1972 vintage steel bike near Cambria on a road with ever steeper rolling hills. On one particular steeper section (about 12%) with a smoothly pebbled surface, I got caught in the wrong gear, slowed and while trying to turn up across the road, lost traction and fell somewhat hard on my left side and slid down about 4 feet away from the bike.

I laid there about 20 seconds checking myself (abrasions to the left elbow) and then my Apple Watch wrist tapped and sounded an alert that it detected the fall, the timer was going in the background, and it asked me to confirm – “It looks like you’ve taken a hard fall” Emergency SOS option or “I’m OK” or “I fell But I’m ok”. I tapped on the latter, knowing the Watch and iPhone would machine learn more about my falls, then tried to stand up, but almost slid on my bike shoes further down the hill. I tried not to think about whether I had any cell service in a valley surrounded by steep hills. But I was comforted knowing my Apple Watch was keeping track of me even when I fell. I did complete the 26 mile ride on top of the 45 mile ride yesterday.
